SAMARPANAM - A tribute to Palghat K V Narayanaswamy | Concept & Direction: Bhargavi Balasubramanian
SAMARPANAM - A vocal-instrumental ensemble presentation celebrating the music & birth centenary of Palghat Shri K V Narayanaswamy, conceptualised & directed by Bhargavi Balasubramanian @bhargavibalasubramanian
and presented at the Cleveland ...Thyagaraja Festival on April 13, 2024 along with with bharatanatyam led and performed by Guru Meenakshi Ganesan (from California), Guru Preetha Subramanyan (from Georgia) and Guru Pragnya Yogesh (from Iowa). .
Shri Palghat K V Narayanaswamy's music was known for its adherence to strict classicism, shruti fidelity, effortless open-throated singing across octaves, clear enunciation of lyrics, seamless breath control & primacy for sowkhyam, be it compositions, improvisational aspects or scintillating Ragam-Tanam-Pallavis. His manodharmam was striking in how facile and free flowing it sounded to listeners.
While Shri. KVN’s music bore the stamp of his Guru Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, it reflected augmentations and improvements in line with his own musical sense and sensibilities.
His vast repertoire showcased a variety of composers from the Trinity to contemporary composers of Shri. M D Ramanathan and others from his era.
A power-packed, fiery paced composition of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi in a contrastingly evocative raga, Vakulabharanam is always a musical treat.
Here is a rendition by Vid. Bhargavi Balasubramanian ([@bhargavibalasubramanian](https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UCe6w44KRB9WZ4XAJ-FL4KDw)) along ...with her disciples, Shri Ganesh Raman & Smt Bindu Ramkumar. They have been wonderfully supported by Shri Hariharan on the Khanjira.

Wellness Prayer Song | Anjaneya palayashumam | Sahana | Chitravina N Ravikiran | Voice Ensemble
Set in the evocative Indian Raga Sahana (also spelt as Sahana by some), this composition is one of Ravikiran’s Health and Wellness songs. It eulogizes Hanuman as the bestower of ...intellect, power, energy, robust health free of illnesses, courage and many other positive qualities. Though the composer describes himself as "probably more spiritualistic than ritualistic", this is one song that he rendered almost daily from Sept 2014 till it was premiered on 2 April 2020 as part of Ramanavami celebrations. This video was specially recorded by an ensemble consisting of some of the direct disciples of the composer who have been listed in alphabetical order:
Hailed as "Mozart of India" (Wisconsin State Journal & Belgium TV) and known for his "Teasing precision & dazzling effects" (New York Times) and for "Taking Indian music to new audiences" (CNN), Ravikiran's maiden stage appearance was at age two, first vocal concert was at age 5 and first chitravina (21-string slide) concert was at age 12. RAVIKIRAN's "The Indestructible" | Prayer to SUDARSHANA | Victory of Positive Forces over Negative
1. Ravikiran's “INDESTRUCTIBLE - Vairi mada nashana” is perhaps the only full Indian Classical Music song exclusively on Shri Sudarshana. It was inspired by Shri Vedanta Deshika’s Sudarshana Ashtakam, whose ...opening phrase, “prati bhaTa shrENi bheeShaNa” forms the beginning of one of this song’s sections.
2. It is a prayer for Victory of Positive Forces of every type over Negative ones. It has been performed by a talented army of musicians, several of who are sought-after performers and educators.
3. It is also a tribute to all true heroes - social, political, sports and artistic champions as well as millions of unsung heroes of the Armed Forces, Police Forces, Investigative Agencies, Doctors & Health Care workers who tirelessly ensure our safety, prosperity and health.
4 The instrumentation, occasionally peppered with war drums is suggestive of the valour and energy of armies just as some of the visuals, (which are general shots and not intended to spotlight any country). But the composer Ravikiran is a deep rooted non-confrontationalist who is against *unprovoked attacks* of any kind and has dedicated much of his life to promote inter-cultural harmony.
5. At a philosophical level, this song is also a prayer for the Positive to conquer the Negative *within the minds of each one of us*.
